Stukenberg, Whittle Earn B1G Weekly Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – After helping the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 15-5 season-opening win, sophomore Zoe Stukenberg and freshman Megan Whittle received Big Ten Weekly Honors, as announced by the conference Monday.

Stukenberg was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after posting three goals and three assists against William & Mary Sunday. The sophomore midfielder scored on all three of her attempted shots and went 1-of-1 on free-position shots. She also earned a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Whittle was tabbed as the conference's Freshman of the Week. In her first collegiate game, the attacker scored two goals on three shots. Whittle scored both her goals just 20 seconds apart in the first half against the Tribe.

Goalkeepers Emi Smith (Penn State) and Candice Dandridge (Rutgers) were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week.

The Terps (1-0) host longtime rival and second-ranked North Carolina (3-0) Saturday at noon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in College Park.
