Trimble Named Watch List Finalist for Cousy Award

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Maryland freshman Melo Trimble has been named one of 16 watch list finalists for the 2015 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Friday.
Trimble is averaging a team-best 16.1 points per game while leading the No. 16-ranked Terps in assists (84) and steals (37). The Upper Marlboro, Md., product, has scored 20 or more points eight times this season, including a 31-point showing against Arizona State on Nov. 24 which fell just two points shy of the Maryland single-game record for a freshman (Joe Smith vs. Rider, 1993). He is averaging 21 points per game in Maryland's last four contests.
Named after Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor now in its 12th year, recognizes the top point guards in men's college basketball. The original watch list of 35 candidates was narrowed down to the below list of 16 by a national committee.
The current list of 16 finalists for the 2015 Bob Cousy Award presented by College of Holy Cross will be narrowed down to five players by early March. The winner of the 2015 Bob Cousy Award presented by College of Holy Cross will be presented at ESPN's new College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's from Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 10, 2015. The Awards will be televised live on ESPN2 at 8:00pm EST.
