
Terps Travel To Iowa To Open B1G Play

COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The Maryland softball team opens its Big Ten conference competition, as they travel to Iowa City, Iowa for a three game series against the Hawkeyes. Over the past two months, the Terps have a racked a 17-11 record in non-conference match ups.
This past weekend the team returned to the Maryland softball stadium for its home opener, playing in three games in five days. The Terrapins went 3-2 in those five games, picking up two run-rule wins over Lafayette on Sunday and a walk-off victory over Princeton on Monday. Maryland fought hard, but ultimately dropped a twin bill against St. Francis on Tuesday to close out the home stand.
In the home stand Erin Pronobis hit .846, tallying 11 hits and five RBIs. Additionally, Lindsey Schmeiser had a .600 batting average, while picking up six hits, three home runs and six RBIs.
This weekend on the diamond
The Terps will face the Hawkeyes for a three-game series this weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All games will be played in the Bob Pearl Softball Stadium on the campus on the University of Iowa.

Scouting the Hawkeyes

Schmesier earns weekly conference and regional honors
- Maryland junior Lindsey Schmeiser was named Big Ten Player of the Week. The honor marked the first-ever weekly conference award in the Big Ten.
- The Dunkirk, Md. native also was named ECAC D-1 South Region Player of the Week.
- Schmeiser posted a .833 batting average, .857 on-base percentage and 2.000 slugging percentage while leading the Terps to a double header sweep against Lafayette this past Sunday. Schmeiser went 5-for-6 at the plate driving in five runs, while recording three extra-base hits through two games this past weekend.
Looking ahead
- The Terrapins return home to the Maryland Softball Stadium for a mid-week double header against Dartmouth. The teams will match up on Wed. March 25 for two games starting at 5:00 p.m.
