EL Paso, Texas, - Senior Pat Cole set a school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 59.42m to lead the Maryland track and field team at UTEP Springtime Invite at Kidd Field.
On the women' side, Amber Melville continued strong form from the indoor season with a win in the high jump. The senior jumped 1.75m to take the title.
Claudia Ababio nabbed the title in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.82m. Chioma Onyekwere topped off a great Terp day in the throws with a win in the shot put.
In middle distance, Alexandra Lucki and Charlotte Staver went 2-3 in the 800 meters. Micha Powell grabbed a second-place finish in the 400m.
Sydney Almeida led the Terps in distance events with a win in the 5000m. Catherine Sheffo took third in the event.
In the relays, the Maryland foursome of Staver, Lucki, Powell and Myah Hicks won the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:49.93.
Brandon Thompson had a strong third place showing in the 200m dash while Diego Lyon also placed third in the 110m hurdles.
Maryland returns to host the Maryland Invitational at the Kehoe Track Complex on March 28.
