
#1 Terps Open B1G Play at #4 Northwestern

The No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team (9-0) opens its inaugural season in the Big Ten at new conference rival No. 4 Northwestern (5-2) Thursday in Evanston, Ill. Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

- The Terps are averaging 13.89 goals per game while limiting opponents to 6.78 goals per game, which ranks fifth in the country. Maryland has allowed more than seven goals only twice this season (11 vs. North Carolina, 10 vs. James Madison).
- Junior Taylor Cummings leads the Terrapins with 28 goals, 14 assists, 42 points, 15 ground balls, 62 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers. Freshman Megan Whittle also has 28 goals on the season.
- Redshirt senior goalkeeper Alex Fitzpatrick has started all nine games and holds a 6.20 goals-against average and .521 save percentage.

- Bridget Bianco has started every game in goal and holds a 9.32 goals-against average and a .475 save percentage.

- The Terps are 8-6 all-time against the Wildcats. Head coach Cathy Reese is 2-3 in her career vs. Northwestern.

- Megan Whittle tallied her fifth hat trick of the season, and Taylor Cummings, Kelly McPartland and Brooke Griffin each scored twice. Erin Collins also added a goal.
- Alice Mercer and Megan Douty led the Terrapin defense as Mercer caused four turnovers and Douty picked up three ground balls. Cummings finished the game with 11 draw controls, which tied a season high.

- Taylor Cummings, Alice Mercer and Megan Whittle were selected as the Big Ten Players of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday.
- Cummings was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. She scored a hat trick and recorded two assists, two ground balls and four caused turnovers against the Quakers, while posting a career-high 11 draw controls. Cummings matched the new career high with 11 draw controls vs. James Madison. She also scored twice and recorded two assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Dukes.

fitzpatrick makes statement with terps
- A transfer from Lehigh, redshirt senior Alex Fitzpatrick has led the Terps in goal. Fitzpatrick has started all eight games and has played 403 minutes in the cage.
- Fitzpatrick boasts a 6.20 goals-against average and .521 save percentage. Her GAA is good for fifth in the nation and first in the conference, while her save percentage is ranked fifth in the NCAA and first in the Big Ten.
- Fitzpatrick allowed a season-low two goals against Towson, and kept the Tigers off the board completely in the second half. She also recorded a season-best 10 saves against Towson.
whittle's world
- Freshman Megan Whittle has made an immediate impact for the Terps in her first season.
- Whittle has scored 28 goals in nine games, which is tied for first on the team. It also puts her at 10th in the nation in total goals.
- Whittle was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List last week. She is the only freshman on the prestigious list.
- Whittle has been named the conference's Freshman of the Week three times, the most of any honoree. She was also named ILWomen.com's Freshman of the Week once.
- The attacker came to Maryland as the top-ranked member of her class by Inside Lacrosse.

six terrapins named to tewaaraton watch list
- Taylor Cummings, Megan Douty, Brooke Griffin, Kelly McPartland and Alice Mercer were named to the 2015 Tewaaraton Watch List in February.

- The six Terps are the most players from any program named to the 53-player watch list.
