COLLEGE PARK, MD – The No. 48 Maryland women's tennis team remained undefeated at home and extended its winning streak to five, defeating Old Dominion, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Tennis Center at College Park.
To start the match, the Terps claimed the doubles point. Welma Luus and Alexandra Stanova defeated Borislave Botusharova and Nikol Hristova, 6-4, to give the Terps an advantage. Maryland duo, Kristina Hovsepyan and Ekaterina Tour won over Marijana Novakovic and Ingrid Vojcinakova, 6-4, to give the Terps the point.
In singles, Luus had a dominate performance over Adrina Rajkovic, winning the first Maryland singles point, 6-0. 6-2. Olga Bredikhina followed with an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Ivana Vukovic.
Tour and Hristova battled each other hard, but Tour came out victorious for the Terps, 6-2, 6-4. The match between Monarch Botusharova and Stanova was tight. Stanova overwhelmed Botusharova in the second set to tie the match, but Botusharova rallied back and won the contest, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
In the No. 3 spot, Nataliya Bredikhina defeated Vojcinakava in a 10-point tie-breaker, 7-6(5), 0-6, 12-10. Novakovic defeated Hovsepyan 7-5, 5-7, 6-1, but Maryland had already sealed the victory.
The Terps look to continue their winning streak on the road against Nebraska on Friday, March 13 at noon.
