COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Benjamin Eidelberg's dedication and commitment to the Maryland men's basketball program as a team manager for the past four years has not gone unnoticed.
Eidelberg, who is majoring in business management and minoring in rhetoric, played an integral role in the basketball program having a successful inaugural campaign in the Big Ten en route to winning a school record 26 regular season games.
So when Eidelberg and his fraternity needed assistance with a charitable event – rising senior Jake Layman and rising sophomore Melo Trimble were happy to assist.
Last week, the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity held its third annual Craig's GladiATΩrs signature philanthropy event in honor of our brother, Craig Weingarten, who suffered a catastrophic head injury in a car accident in 2010.
All the proceeds from the event were provided to the Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports and the Adapted Sports Program at the University of Maryland Rehab and Orthopedic Institute - a pair of organizations that work to improve the lives of individuals fighting back from a wide range of disabilities.
“It was a great fundraising event and we were really excited to help out and participate to raise awareness and money for this very important cause,” Layman said.
The Olympic-style team competition, an event scheduled for three hours, took place last Sunday on Chapel Field. Teams competed in various events, including an inflatable boot camp obstacle course and inflatable jousting. The event concluded with a dinner and silent auction at Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
According to Eidelberg, the event raised more than $15,000 and is currently still accepting donations on their GoFundMe Facebook page.
