
Maryland Hits Road For Battle With Hoosiers

COLLEGE PARK, Md.—The Maryland Softball team travels to Bloomington for a pivotal three game series against the Indiana Hoosiers this weekend.
Last week the Terps went 2-3, splitting a midweek interlude against Dartmouth, while taking a game from conference foe Ohio State. With the pair of victories, the Terrapins move to 21-15 overall and 3-3 in Big Ten play. The team is 5-5 in home games and 4-3 in away games this season.
This weekend on the diamond
Maryland will play a three game set against the Hoosiers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All games will be played at the IU Softball Stadium.

Scouting Indiana
- Last time out, the Hoosiers were swept by Illinois in three games. With the sweep, Indiana moves to 10-26 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten.
- The team is led by Rebecca Blitz with a .351 batting average and nine RBIs. Kelsey Dotson has 32 RBIs, while Shannon Cawley has 27.
- This series marks the second, third and fourth all-time meetings between the Terps and Hoosiers. Maryland currently holds a 1-0 advantage, having last played in 2003.
'KK' Schmeiser Moves Up All-Time Strikeout List
- In an 18-8 victory over Dartmouth, Kaitlyn Schmeiser (14-5) picked up the victory, tossing four innings and striking out three. With the three strikeouts, K. Schmeiser moves to 113 on the season and 386 on her career. That moved her into sole possession of sixth on the all-time strikeout list.
- She currently sits at 124 strikeouts on the season and 397 for her career.
- The senior sits at seventh in the NCAA win 15 wins on the season.
Streaking Schmeiser
- Lindsey Schmeiser is in the midst of a 13 game hit streak entering the first game of the series. The streak dates back to the March 8th matchup with Stony Brook.
- The junior has picked up a hit in 28 of 33 games and 20 of the last 21 games this season.
- Over her streak, the Dunkirk, Md. native has put up 21 hits and 16 RBIs in 45 at-bats. She's tallied nine double and four home runs over that time as well as a .467 batting average.
- This past weekend Schmeiser hit her thirteenth double of the season, tying for eighth on the all-time single-season doubles record. Her double in the first game of the Ohio State series sparked the ten-run comeback.
- Her thirteen doubles rank first in the Big Ten and fourth in the country.
Hannah's Hot Streak
- Additionally, Hannah Dewey is currently on an eight game hit streak, dating back to the team's Big Ten opener at Iowa. Over the streak, Dewey has picked up 10 hits and four RBIs in 21 at-bats. She has drawn 14 walks and has a .476 batting average.
- The sophomore has hit in 24 of 36 games this season.
- Over the season, the Temeluca, Calif. Native has drawn 40 walks, moving her to into third all-time for single-season walks at Maryland and second in the Big Ten.
Comeback Kids
- Twice this season, the Terps have overcome a 10-run deficit to win the game. In addition, the team has made multiple come from behind victories of smaller margins.
- Maryland came back from a 12-2 deficit in the first game of the Iowa series to defeat the Hawkeyes 15-14. The team racked 19 hits en route to a victory.
- The Terps overcame a 10-2 deficit in the first game of the Ohio State series to win 11-10. Corey Schwartz blasted a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
