Terps Welcome #4 Michigan For Three Game Set

COLLEGE PARK, Md.—The Maryland softball team returns to College Park for its final home series of the 2015 season, as they welcome #4 Michigan for a three game series.

The Terps (26-21, 8-9 Big Ten) are coming of a midweek double header against fellow Big Ten newcomer Rutgers. Maryland battled, ultimately dropping both games. Lindsey Schmeiser hit a home run in the first innings, bringing her season total to 11 and tying the all-time Maryland home run record.

In addition, the team will honor its seven seniors prior to Sunday's game. Jaymi Bautista-Geiger, Shannon Bustillos, Bridget Hawvermale, Erin Pronobis, Kaitlyn Schmeiser, Mandy Gardner and Jessica Warner will be recognized in a pregame ceremony for Senior Day.

This Weekend On The Diamond

Friday's game will be broadcast live nationally on the Big Ten Network. The game marks the second game of the season to be broadcast on BTN. The two other games will be streamed on BTN Plus ($). Live stats for all three games will be available in the links provided below.

  • Last time out, Michigan took a midweek game against Michigan State, 4-3. The weekend prior, they swept Indiana, outscoring the Hoosiers 21-3.

Schmeiser Ties All-time Home Run Record

  • With a solo shot in the first game of the double-header against Rutgers L. Schmeiser ties the all-time home run record in program history. She is tied with Beth Radford for 27 home runs.
  • In addition, L. Schmeiser picked up a hit in the first game extending her hit streak to 23 games. She failed to pick up a hit in the second game, but reached base, reaching base in 24 straight games, dating back to a March 8 matchup with Stony Brook. She has picked up a hit in 38 of 45 games this season.

Comeback Kids

  • Twice this season, the Terps have overcome a 10-run deficit to win the game. In addition, the team has made multiple come from behind victories of smaller margins.
  • Maryland overcame a 12-2 deficit in the first game of the Iowa series to defeat the Hawkeye, 15-14. The victory marked the Terps first-ever Big Ten victory.
  • The Terps came back from a 10-2 deficit in the first game of the Ohio State series to win the game 11-10. Corey Schwartz blasted a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
  • Maryland has comeback to win a game in the seventh inning eight times this season. Six have been walk-off wins, while two have been on the road.
