Chicago, Ill. – Dez Wells was invited to the NBA Draft Scouting Combine held this week in Chicago. Wells, a first-team All-Big Ten performer, will be among more than 60 prospects in attendance this week working out in front of NBA general managers, personnel and coaching staffs.
Wells is scheduled to participate in basketball drills, featuring ball-handling, shooting and the much-anticipated five-on-five competition.
Wells, an explosive guard/forward, led Maryland to a school record 26 regular season wins last year as the Terps advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. He finished an outstanding senior season averaging 15.1 points. 5.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Wells led the team in scoring (26), rebounds (7) and assists (4) in a victory over Big Ten champion and Final Four participant Wisconsin. His game-winning putback with 1.4 seconds over Northwestern lifted Maryland to an improbable home comeback win in which the Terps trailed by 11 points with just over three minutes remaining. In his three seasons with the Terps, he averaged 14.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 98 career games with 95 starts. Wells finished with 1,398 career points – 19th on the school's all-time career scoring list and also improved his single-season scoring average in each of his four seasons.
The 6-5 Raleigh, N.C., native has been working out and preparing for the NBA Draft Scouting Combine at XFINITY Center in College Park. He is scheduled to graduate with a degree in American Studies this summer.
The NBA Scouting Combine will be televised on Thursday, May 14 (3 pm) and Friday, May 15 on ESPN and NBATV.
