BALTIMORE – The incoming class of the Maryland women's lacrosse team starred in the 2015 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Game Friday.
Seven Terps - the most of any program - suited up in the game, as the South defeated the North, 14-12, at Towson's Johnny Unitas Stadium.
Defender Julia Braig, attacker Kelsey Cummings, defender Meghan Doherty, midfielder Jen Giles, attacker Caroline Steele and goalkeeper Megan Taylor all represented the South team. Defender Shelby Mercer was the Terrapins' lone representative on the North team.
Steele earned MVP honors after posting one goal and four assists. Cummings scored twice while Giles added one goal.
Defensively, Braig tallied three ground balls and caused one turnover while Mercer finished with one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover on the other side of the field.
Taylor allowed just three goals and made four saves as she earned the start for the South.
Under Armour All-Americans are selected by a panel of lacrosse experts from Inside Lacrosse Magazine. The year-long selection process includes input from college and high school coaches from across the country as well as nominations from the public.
