Each week during the 2016-17 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is Melo Trimble of the men's basketball team.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior guard Melo Trimble has been named Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week for his work in wins Stony Brook, Richmond and Kansas State.
Trimble tied his career-high with 31 points in an 88-82 overtime win over Richmond and followed with 18 points, including a game-winning acrobatic layup with 6.6 seconds left to defeat Kansas State, 60-59, to lead the Terps to the Barclays Center Classic championship. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native averaged 24.5 points and connected on 16-of-31 field goal attempts en route to earning Most Valuable Player honors.
Trimble has now won three consecutive MVP honors after also guiding the Terps to the CBE Classic title in 2014 and the Cancun Challenge championship in 2015.
In addition, Trimble scored a game-high 21 points and connected on 10-11 free throw attempts en route to Maryland's 77-63 win over Stony Brook last Tuesday.
Trimble also garnered Big Ten Co-Player of the Week honors.
