
Galligan, Selmer Named to Stopper of the Year Watch List

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Maryland senior LHP Robert Galligan and sophomore RHP Ryan Selmer were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award watch list, the organization announced this week.
Galligan was one of Maryland's top pitchers last season, serving in a variety of roles while appearing 27 times, the eighth-best mark in school history, with three starts. The senior recorded 62.1 IP with a 2.74 ERA and used his pinpoint control to induce 58 strikeouts. He also notched one save.
Selmer tied a school record with 31 appearances in 2015 with four starts. In 53.2 IP, Selmer held a 2.18 ERA and went 3-1. He is expected to serve as one of Maryland's top right-handers out of the bullpen this season.
The 2016 Stopper of the Year Watch List will be updated with a midseason release on Wednesday, April 27, including the national saves leaders. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and released Wednesday, June 8, prior to start of NCAA Super Regional competition.
The NCBWA's All-America Committee will select the winner, with this year's recipient to be announced at the 2016 College World Series.
The NCBWA, founded in 1962, presents the Dick Howser Trophy to the nation's top player. It also selects All-America Teams for all Divisions, a Division I Freshman All-American team, Division I and III Players of the Week, Division I District Players of the Year and Division III Players of the Year.

Maryland opens its 2016 campaign with a three-game series at Alabama starting on Feb. 19. The Terps advanced to their second straight Super Regional last season and finished with a school record 42 wins.
