Box Score 2 ATLANTA, Ga.- A thunderous late inning rally ending in a Destiney Henderson walk-off single brought Maryland back from 5-2 down to defeat Mercer 6-5, as the Terrapins split day two of the Panther Invitational.
Maryland dropped game two to Miami (OH) 7-1.
GAME ONE
Destiney Henderson hit a walk-off single to complete her 3-5 outing in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Maryland to a come from behind 6-5 victory.
Trailing by one run entering the final frame, the Terrapins strung together three hits and one Mercer error to walk off. Lindsey Schmeiser reached on an error to start off the inning. Pinch hitting, Jordan Aughinbaugh smashed a single up the middle to put the go-ahead run on base. Kylie Datil promptly tied the game with a double to the right field fence. On the next pitch, Destiney Henderson sent one into left field to win the game.
Mercer used a leadoff walk and three hits to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Lindsey Schmeiser answered in second with her third home run of the season, tying Shannon Bustillos the program record for most career long balls.
The Bears added one more in the fifth to make it a 4-1 game. In the bottom half, Corey Schwartz used an incredible, heart-pounding 12 pitch at bat to draw a full-count RBI walk to draw Maryland within one, 3-2.
Down 5-2 with just two at-bats remaining, the Terrapin bats came to life. In the sixth, Maryland loaded the bases with no outs. Skylynne Ellazar and Kristina Dillard followed with RBI groundouts to bring Maryland within one. In the seventh, the Terrapins won the game on Henderson's walk-off single. Freshman Sami Main recorded her first collegiate win in the circle.
GAME TWO
Brenna Nation went five innings, allowing two earned runs and only allowing three hits but Maryland fell to Miami (OH) 7-1.
After just two combined hits in the first two innings, Miami scored the games first run on behalf of two Maryland errors.
The game remained 1-0 through four innings, but the Hawks scored two in the fifth and four in the sixth to put the Terps down 7-0.
Kristina Dillard would plate the only Maryland run in the seventh with a RBI double, scoring Hannah Dewey.
The Terrapins will wrap up their stay in Georgia tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with a rematch against No. 5 Alabama. Maryland narrowly lost the first meeting on Friday 1-0.
