
Two Terps Nab Top-8 Seeds for Big Ten Championships

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Redshirt seniors Geoffrey Alexander (133) and Lou Mascola (157) both earned top-eight berths for the 2016 Big Ten Wrestling Championships in a release made by the conference offices this afternoon. The tournament is set to start this Saturday, March 5 in Iowa City, Iowa.
The pre-seeds, as voted on by the conference's coaches, rank the top eight wrestlers in eight weight classes, along with all 14 starters in two weight classes due to the Big Ten receiving nine or more NCAA Championships qualifier allocations in those classes.

Alexander was voted to a No. 4 seed in the 133-pound bracket after going unbeaten (6-0) in Big Ten duals this season. He finished his final collegiate regular season 11-2 overall with an 8-1 mark in dual matches. He remains ranked in the top-20 via the latest InterMat Wrestling individual rankings, checking in at No. 12 in the 133-pound class on February 23.
Mascola was voted to a No. 8 seed in the 157-pound poll, and wrapped up the regular season with a 15-8 record while posting a team-best 11 wins in dual matches this year. He went 6-3 in the Big Ten, which included a pin of seventh-seeded Tyler Berger (Nebraska) on December 11.
