COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland freshman right-handed pitcher Hunter Parsons was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Parsons was sensational against James Madison on Wednesday, notching career bests in innings pitched (7.0), hits allowed (2) and tied his career high in strikeouts with four.
The Fruitland, Md., native earned his first career win and moved his ERA to 3.77 on the season. Parsons has given up just two runs over 11.2 IP in two career starts.
Parsons is Maryland's third Big Ten Freshman of the Week this season after Marty Costes (April 4) and Nick Dunn (March 7).
The Terrapins return to action at Richmond on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
