COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Recent dance crazes like The Dougie and Gangnam Style have officially met their match and it all started with Maryland Basketball.  Ladies and gentlemen introducing The Running Man Challenge.

What started as a few social media videos by sophomores Jared Nickens and Jaylen Brantley has exploded into a national trend, with thousands across the nation participating in the dance-off which is played to the track of My Boo by Ghost Town DJs.

“We didn't plan on it being as big as it is, it really just started with us messing around and having fun in the locker room,” Brantley said. “I realized it was probably going to be big when Villanova responded to our challenge of “Who wants to battle?” on Instagram after one of the videos. It's just really taken off since then.”

The videos have been gaining heavy traction on the web, with one clip of the guys boasting over 10 million views on Facebook. Fellow Terps Damonte Dodd and Melo Trimble have also made cameo appearances. Locations include everywhere from XFINITY Center, to the middle of Route 1, to the local 7-11.

“I've been dancing since high school but nothing too serious,” Nickens said. “We were just having fun. I've probably watched a thousand videos from across the country. I'm glad people are enjoying it so much.”

So what's next for the fellas?

“We've got a few things coming up but we're not ready to release any details on it,” Brantley said, with a coy smile.

“There will be a brand new dance coming soon – one that Jaylen, Dion (Wiley), Melo and I created,” Nickens said. “We'll keep you hanging for now though.”
