COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Jake Layman,
Robert Carter, Jr.,
Diamond Stone and
Melo Trimble have all earned invitations to the NBA Draft Combine, an event that begins May 11 and runs through May 15 in Chicago.
Maryland and Kentucky each have four players participating in the NBA Draft Combine – marking the most players from any university.
Carter, Jr., a transfer from Georgia Tech, earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors as a junior this season for the Terrapins. The Thomasville, Ga., native scored in double-figures in 25 games in 2015-16 and led Maryland on the glass, posting 6.9 boards per game. He was third in scoring (12.3 ppg) and also connected on .554 of his field goal attempts.
Stone was second on the team in scoring as a freshman in 2015-16, averaging 12.5 points per game. He was named Associated Press Big Ten Newcomer of the Year and was tabbed a Big Ten Third Team selection. The Milwaukee, Wisc., native established the Maryland freshman record and all-time mark at XFINITY Center with 39 points versus Penn State on Dec. 30, 2015 and also established Maryland single-game records for free throws made (19) and attempted (25).
Trimble, a two-time All-Big Ten selection and an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American in 2016, led the Terps in scoring (14.8 ppg), assists (4.9 apg), free throw percentage (.868) and steals (44) during his sophomore season. The guard increased his assist total by 70 from his freshman campaign (176) and was also tabbed to the national ballot for the Wooden Award in his second season. Trimble has entered his name in the NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent.
A new rule that applies to this year's Draft allows players to go through the predraft process all the way through the combine. Players who haven't signed with agents have 10 days (May 25) after the combine to withdraw from the Draft.
The 2016 NBA Draft Combine will air on the ESPN family of networks including ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3. For a complete listing of times and channels, please click here.
