JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior Chioma Onyekwere and sophomore Alexandra Lucki capped off a big week for the Terps at the NCAA East Track & Field Regionals Saturday evening, as the pair both punched their tickets to the 2016 NCAA Championships. The duo pushes Maryland's total qualifiers to three after junior Micha Powell earned a bid with her performance in the 400 Friday.
Onyekwere took care of business in the shot put, finishing 11th in the quarterfinal round to qualify for a spot in the championships. Her final throw of the day got it done, as she went 16.26 meters to secure a top-12 finish.
Lucki outran her No. 44 seed in the 1500 to eventually go 4:20.90 in the quarterfinals and snatch up the final east qualifying spot with a 12th place finish.
The trio of Terps will now set their sights on Eugene, Oregon for the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships, set to begin on Wednesday, June 8. The event will conclude on Saturday, June 11.
