Former Terp Wells Visits Campers Tuesday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Dez Wells joined the 2016 Maryland Basketball camp on Tuesday in College Park to speak and visit with 200 campers.  Wells, a three-year starter who earned All-Big Ten first team honors as a senior and led Maryland to a school-record 28 wins during the 2014-15 season, shared his message about the importance of setting goals and following your passion.

“Whatever you do in life – no matter if it's basketball or anything else – do it with a passion,” said Wells, who graduated with a degree in American Studies.

Wells spent his first professional basketball season playing with the Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA D-League.  He has been training in Silver Spring, Md., in preparation for the NBA Summer League - which begins in July.

During his discussion, Wells asked the campers to stand individually and share their personal goals.

“Remember to keep these goals in place where you can review them each day,” Wells said. “And make sure you stay motivated to challenge yourself to achieve them.”

Jeff Baxter, a four-year letterman from 1982-86 who guided the Terps to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, was a guest speaker on the first day of camp as well.

The Maryland Basketball Camp goes through Wednesday, June 22.  Maryland Basketball overnight camp is scheduled from June 26-29 and the day camp is set from June 30-July 2.  Additionally, the Terps will host a basketball camp at St. Mary's College of Maryland from July 20-23.
