COLLEGE PARK Md., -- Maryland freshman guard Anthony Cowan was named Solomon Eye's Terp of the Week for the week of January 9.
Cowan led Maryland to a pair of wins against Indiana and at Illinois. A native of Bowie, Md., Cowan averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals as the Terps find themselves atop of the Big Ten Conference standings with a 5-1 record.
Cowan, who also connected on 11-of-15 (68.8%) field goal attempts last week, has led Maryland to a 17-2 overall record in his inaugural season with the Terps. He totaled 15 points in Maryland's 75-72 win against Indiana and concluded the week pouring in a game-high 19 points in a 62-56 victory at Illinois.
Following the victorious week, Cowan and the Terps were ranked 25th in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll.
Cowan followed up his Terp of the Week honor, with 15 points on five-of-six field goal attempts en route to Maryland's 84-76 win at Iowa.
For the season, Cowan is averaging 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while connecting on 48.8% (60-123) field goal attempts.
Cowan and Maryland will host Rutgers on Tuesday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m. EST at XFINITY Center.
