
#24 Maryland Hosts Iowa Saturday at XFINITY

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 24 Maryland men's basketball team welcomes Iowa at 6 p.m. Saturday as the program recognizes the 2001 Final Four and 2002 National Championship teams at XFINITY Center.

• Ivan Bender scored a career-high 15 points but No. 24 Maryland fell short against Minnesota, 89-75, Wednesday at XFINITY Center. Melo Trimble - the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week - and Anthony Cowan chipped in with 11 points each. It was Trimble's 26th double-figure scoring game this season and his 17th consecutive. Justin Jackson posted 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds as the Terps outrebounded Minnesota, 42-36.
• Maryland's bench was terrific against Minnesota on Wednesday, accounting for 31 points and 14 rebounds. In addition to 15 points, Ivan Bender racked up five rebounds while fellow big man L.G. Gill notched six points and six boards. Jaylen Brantley scored eight points as the Terps outscored the Golden Gophers, 31-24, off the bench.
• Wednesday's loss to Minnesota marked only the third time since January of 2015 that Maryland has lost back-to-back games. The Terps have not lost three games in a row since dropping three straight at Georgia Tech (2/25), at North Carolina (2/29) and vs. Virginia (3/4) in 2012 in head coach Mark Turgeon's first year at the helm of the Maryland Basketball program.
• Maryland is honoring its 2001 Final Four and 2002 National Championship teams at halftime of the Maryland/Iowa game on Saturday. The University of Maryland will also hold a media availability with coaches and players from each team in the Pavilion at 3 p.m. prior to a 'Chat with Legends' at 4:30 p.m. It is the 15th anniversary of Maryland's win over Indiana in the 2002 national title game in Atlanta.
• Melo Trimble notched one of his 12 20-plus point scoring performances this season in an 84-76 win over Iowa on Jan. 19 in Iowa City. The Terps shot a scorching 56.6 percent in the game as Maryland boasted five players in double-figures, including Trimble, Anthony Cowan (15), Justin Jackson (12), Damonte Dodd (10) and Jaylen Brantley (10).
• Freshman Kevin Huerter served as a ball boy along with his brother Thomas Jr. for Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery when he was at Siena. Kevin's father, Tom, was the radio color analyst at Siena.
