LEADING IT OFF
• Maryland takes an eight-game winning streak into Chapel Hill for a midweek contest with No. 11 North Carolina. The Terps are 50-134 against the Tar Heels all-time.
• Junior Zach Jancarski took home Big Ten Player of the Week honors after batting .450 from the lead-off spot in Maryland's five game week. Jancarski also notched three doubles and three stolen bases. Freshman Tyler Blohm was named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week after he tossed six shutout innings and tied a career-high with six Ks against Bryant.
• The Terps were comeback kids in two midweek wins, overcoming a six-run deficit to defeat William & Mary on Tuesday before coming back from four runs down to take out Saint Joseph's on Wednesday.
• Maryland swept its three games at the USA Baseball-Irish Classic in Cary, N.C. The Terps took down Notre Dame, then No. 6 NC State and Dayton. The win over NC State was Maryland's first over a top-10 team since it defeated No. 1 UCLA to win an NCAA Regional title in 2015.
• After early struggles Maryland's bullpen has been stellar over the past eight games, giving up just three earned runs in 31.1 IP. Sophomore Andrew Miller has emerged has a main option out of Maryland's bullpen in that stretch and has still not given up a run this season.
• Maryland's eight-game winning streak has been in line with the improvement of preseason All-American Kevin Smith. Smith is batting .355 with five doubles and six RBIs during that span.
• After stealing just 28 bases in 57 games last season, Maryland has surpassed that total in 14 games this year, with 33 steals on the season. Maryland stole 10 bags over the course of two game on Sunday against Bryant. The Terps rank fourth in the country with 2.36 steals per game.
• The 2017 season is head coach John Szefc's fifth season in College Park. Szefc has led the Terps to four straight 30-win seasons and two NCAA Super Regional appearances, both program firsts. With the Terps 9-2 win over Byrant in game one of a double header on Sunday, Szefc became the fastest coach in program history to win 150 games.
• The Terps topped the Big Ten preseason coaches poll while D1Baseball, Perfect Game and Baseball America named Maryland the Big Ten favorites for the 2017 season. It is the third straight year D1Baseball has tabbed the Terps its Big Ten preseason frontrunner.
