COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore Marty Costes went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Maryland baseball team past Saint Joseph's, 11-5, Wednesday afternoon at Bob “Turtle” Stadium.

With the help of a huge six run eighth inning, the Terrapins (6-5) have won their last five games. The Terps hit four home runs to help to help them stay perfect at Bob 'Turtle” Smith Stadium this year.

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Hawks plated four runs in the second. Senior Tayler Stiles came in relief in the top of the second and let up zero runs in three and one third innings.

The Terps answered back in the bottom of the second with a RBI from sophomore third baseman AJ Lee. Junior Justin Morris followed that up with a deep solo shot to left center for his first home run of the year to cut the lead to two.

Maryland tied it up in the bottom of the third with a Marty Costes two run home run.

After two scoreless innings for both teams, highlighted by a solid effort in relief from senior Jared Price, AJ Lee blasted the first home run of his career to left center field to give the Terps the 5-4 lead. Saint Joseph's got out of the inning stranding one runner on base.

Senior Mike Rescigno came in relief for Andrew Miller in the top of the eighth inning and got the Terps out of a huge jam with two runners in scoring position. In the bottom half of the inning, senior Madison Nickens launched his second home run of the season over the center field wall to give the Terps the 6-5 lead.

Watson, Smith, Morris, Jancarski and Dunn all were plated home later in the inning to blow open the margin to 11-5. The Terps sent twelve batters to the plate in the inning and their six runs was their highest scoring output for one inning so far this season.

Redshirt junior Ryan Selmer came in for Rescigno in the ninth inning to close the door on Saint Joseph's. After giving up two hits to start the inning, the Terrapin defense gave Selmer a lift with an easy 5-4-3 double play. The game concluded with a routine fly ball to junior center fielder Zach Jancarski.

Rescigno got his first win of the season and Morris finished with two hits. Maryland hit four home runs in a game for the first time since February 28, 2016 against Rhode Island.

Maryland is back in action Friday, March 10 for the first of three against Bryant at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. and fans can listen to the contest live on the Maryland Baseball Network and watch live on BTN Plus.
