
Eight Terps Earn IWLCA All-Region Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Eight members of the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team were selected to the IWLCA All-South Region teams, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Friday.
Senior defender Nadine Hadnagy, senior midfielder Zoe Stukenberg, sophomore goalie Megan Taylor, senior attacker Caroline Wannen and junior attacker Megan Whittle were named to the all-region first team. Sophomore defender Julia Braig, sophomore midfielder Jen Giles and freshman attacker Kali Hartshorn earned second team honors.
All eight Terps have helped Maryland to a 19-0 record, the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles and the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Hadnagy leads Maryland's 16th-ranked defense as a senior co-captain. She is tied for the team lead with 23 caused turnovers and is fourth with 25 ground balls. The Farmingdale, N.Y., native was selected as a Tewaaraton finalist and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. She was also a unanimous All-Big Ten selection and named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team.
A threat across the field, Stukenberg ranks in the top three of every statistical category this season, including 44 goals, 22 assists, 66 points, 42 ground balls, 62 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers – all of which are already career highs. The Ellicott City, Md., native was selected as the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and was also named a Tewaaraton finalist. Stukenberg was selected unanimously to the All-Big Ten team and earned Big Ten All-Tournament team honors.
Taylor has emerged as one of the top goalies in the nation as just a sophomore. She repeated as the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year and was named to the All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Tournament teams. Taylor ranks third nationally with a .549 save percentage and is 16th nationally with a 9.18 goals-against average and 10.00 saves per game. The Glenelg, Md., native was a Tewaaraton nominee.
Wannen quarterbacks Maryland's offense, which ranks second nationally. She is second on the team with 67 points and leads the Terps with 35 assists. Wannen was named All-Big Ten this season.
Whittle became the fastest Terp to reach 200 career goals in the Big Ten Tournament and sits at sixth in the Maryland record books with 203 career goals. She leads the Terrapins' second-ranked offense with 60 goals and 73 points, and has a career-high 13 assists. Whittle was named All-Big Ten and to the Big Ten All-Tournament team. The Glenwood, Md., native was a Tewaaraton nominee.
Braig has stepped up as a leader on Maryland's defense this season. She is tied for the team lead with 23 caused turnovers and is tied for second with 27 ground balls. Braig earned All-Big Ten honors.
Giles stepped into a starting role for Maryland on both sides of the ball this season. She is second on the team with 25 assists and ranks sixth with 30 goals and 55 points. Giles also has 16 ground balls, 16 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers. The Ellicott City, Md., native was named All-Big Ten.
Hartshorn is the only true freshman in the Terps' starting lineup and immediately stepped in as a draw specialist. She has 85 draws this season, good for sixth in the Maryland record books for a single season. Hartshorn is second on the team with 49 goals and fourth with 60 points. The Allentown, N.J., native was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
The IWLCA selected 128 student-athletes to all-region teams. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced Wednesday, May 17.
