FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Senior Tewaaraton finalist Matt Rambo was selected with the third overall pick to lead a group of five Maryland men's lacrosse players that were chosen in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse Draft Sunday in Foxborough, Mass.
Maryland has now had 31 players selected in the MLL Draft since head coach John Tillman took over the program in 2011, leading all schools nationally during that span.
Joining Rambo (Charlotte Hounds – 1st Rd, 3rd overall) were defender Tim Muller (Florida Lanuch – 2nd Rd, 10th overall), attackman Colin Heacock (Chesapeake Bayhawks – 2nd Rd, 11th overall), short stick midfielder Isaiah Davis-Allen (Chesapeake Bayhawks – 2nd Rd, 16th overall) and short stick midfielder Nick Manis (Chesapeake Bayhawks – 8th Rd, 66th overall).
Maryland has had at least three selections in every year since 2011, and has now had at least five players drafted in four out of the last seven seasons.
Rambo's third overall selection was the highest pick for a Terp since Joe Walters went first overall in 2006. A 2017 Tewaaraton finalist, Rambo has completely shattered the Maryland record books during his illustrious career. He is the program's all-time leader in points and goals, and has totaled 83 points in 2017 – second-best in Maryland single-season history. He recently became the first player to total 40 goals and 40 assists in a season at Maryland.
Rambo has also played his best under the brightest lights, totaling 60 career points in 13 NCAA Tournament games. The mark ranks first for most career points in tournament play since since 2000.
Muller is a two-time All-American, as he has totaled 41 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers, in addition to scoring a career-high four goals this year. Muller has helped lead the Terps to the National Title game three straight years and to a Championship Weekend appearance all four seasons.
Heacock is a two-time All-American, posting 45 points during the 2017 campaign. He currently ranks 28th in Maryland history with 129 career points, and most recently scored two goals in the NCAA semifinal win against Denver.
Davis-Allen is a two-time team captain and a two-time First Team All-America selection at short stick midfield – the lone first-teamer at the position both years. Davis-Allen has led the Terps to four NCAA semifinal appearances and three NCAA championship games while posting a 60-14 overall record.
Manis is largely respected as Maryland's unsung hero and one of its best leaders, totaling nine ground balls and six caused turnovers on the story. He has played both short stick and long pole defense in 2017.
