COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 3 Maryland men's soccer team pounced on Northwestern and never looked back in a comprehensive 3-0 win in front of 4,015 fans at Ludwig Field Friday night.

The Terrapins (7-0-3, 3-0-2 Big Ten) held possession for most of the match and outshot the Wildcats 17-2. Maryland is now undefeated in its last 27 regular season matches (23-0-4) dating back to 2015.

“I thought we were crisp with the ball and we were very quick to recover the ball once we lost it,” head coach Sasho Cirovski said. “We created all kinds of good chances. The precision is coming. I'm very pleased with the overall performance. It was a great night.

Maryland dominated the early portion of the match, with senior Jake Rozhansky and junior Amar Sejdic both forcing tough saves with strikes outside the box in the first 18 minutes. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute. Sejdic hit a hard shot from 25 yards out that was saved into the path of Sebastian Elney, who smashed the ball into the net from close range.

The Terps continued to pour it on and were rewarded with a second goal in the 39th minute. Junior DJ Reeves sent in a low hard cross from the right corner that found Rozhanksy, who slotted the ball home with his right foot.

Maryland continued to create chances into the second half and drew a penalty kick in the 50th minute. Junior Gordon Wild, who was sharp throughout the night, was fouled just inside the box. Sejdic took the spot kick and after a stutter step, finished to the keeper's left.

Maryland's starting backline of Donovan Pines, Johannes Bergmann, George Campbell and Chase Gasper were largely untroubled over the 90 minutes. Campbell dangerous on the right side, and made a great run in the 54th minute before taking a shot with the outside of his foot that hit the post. Pines almost had his second goal in as many games seconds later, just missing on a diving header from Campbell's cross.

Junior Andrew Samuels was a standout at the base of Maryland's midfield four. The Terps comfortably finished out the last 40 minutes of the contest, which saw a number of Maryland players enter as substitutes.

Maryland returns to action Monday night on the road at UConn. Kickoff from Storrs is set for 7 p.m.
