COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Head coach Adam Hughes and the Maryland volleyball team officially announced the signing of local product, middle blocker Cara Lewis to the 2019 class on Tuesday.
"We're really excited to bring another local legacy into our program," said head coach Adam Hughes. "Cara is an outstanding athlete and has a lot of potential to play many roles that can help us in a variety ways. She is a great fit for our program as we move forward."
Lewis has been a four-year starter for nearby Bowie High School leading the Bulldogs in blocks for all four years of her high school career and standing second on the team in kills over that time. The 6-1 middle blocker played club volleyball for Metro Volleyball Club, the same program that current Terps Nicole Alford, Rainelle Jones, Nell Drummey, Erika Pritchard, Hailey Rubino and Liz Twilley all played for growing up.
Lewis is the daughter of Cedric and Evette. Both her parents graduated from Maryland and her father, Cedric played basketball at Maryland from 1987-91, totaling 535 points, 424 rebounds and 239 blocks over his four seasons as a Terp. She has one sibling, a brother Cedric Jr.
A member of the 2016 PrepVolleyball.com 10' Club and the 2016 CTV Sports Super 6 Volleyball Team, Lewis will arrive in College Park next season joining a young, talented Maryland roster that currently has nine student-athletes on it from the DMV and secured the most Big Ten wins the program's ever had this season.
