RA'ANANA, Israel – Maryland goalkeeper Rachel Egyed has signed a professional contract with the club Hapoel Ra'Anana AFC of the Israeli Women's Premier League. Egyed will be eligible to play in the coming weeks after the league's transfer period concludes.
After a tip from head coach Ray Leone that the club was looking for a goalkeeper for the upcoming season, Egyed got in touch with club officials and eventually decided to sign earlier this month.
"I'm excited to explore this new opportunity, and I'm unbelievably thankful for everyone who played a part in my soccer career," said Egyed. "I'm looking forward to seeing what doors open and what opportunities present themselves as I continue my playing career here in Israel."
Hapoel Ra'Anana will return to action in January with its league season continuing into May.
Egyed put together a spectacular season in the net for the Terps in her final season of collegiate eligibility in 2018, as she tied for the lead in the Big Ten in total saves (93) and saves per game (5.20). Her 97 saves ranked 27th in the nation as of October 26. She also finished with the second best save percentage (.830) among Big Ten goalies, while posting three shutouts on the season.
The Clifton, N.J. native finished her Maryland career ninth of the all-time list in goals against average (1.45), seventh in total saves (222) and eighth in goalie minutes played (4106:29).
