
#4 Maryland to Host Rutgers for Midday Matchup

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The fourth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (12-0, 1-0 B1G) will host Rutgers (8-3, 1-0) Monday for a "Noon Years Eve" matchup at the XFINITY Center. Tip-off is set for noon and parking is free and open for Monday's game.
The game will feature party hats, and Maryland-themed 2019 glasses. Fans can also enter-to-win prizes by dropping their Noon Year's resolutions into an enter-to-win box on the concourse. For tickets, click here.

The Terps won at Penn State, 77-61, Friday night. They trailed the Lady Lions by one to start the fourth quarter, then went on a 21-4 run and held Penn State scoreless for 9:00 to seal the win. Junior Kaila Charles led the way with 23 points, junior Stephanie Jones added 17 points and freshman Taylor Mikesell scored 13. Freshman Shakira Austin grabbed 11 rebounds.
Austin was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Dec. 24 for her fourth weekly honor in the first seven weeks of the season.
Monday's matchup is the 37th all-time between Maryland and Rutgers. Maryland owns the series, 25-11 and won has won all six meetings since joining the league in the 2014-15 season. The Terrapins won 88-60 in College Park on Feb. 1 and 72-54 at Rutgers on Feb. 11 last year.
Maryland is No. 2 in the country in rebounding margin (+17.0) and No. 5 in rebounds with 48.8 per game. The Terps are third in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (33.0), No. 6 in field goal percentage defense (.323) and No. 9 in blocks per game (5.8).
Austin is No. 3 in the country in total blocks (36). She is No. 6 nationally in total rebounds (142). Mikesell leads the league with 37 threes made so far.
Maryland is ranked No. 4 in both the Associated Press poll and the USA Today Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll.
Head coach Brenda Frese is in her 17th season as the head coach of the Terrapins. She's led them to a record of 441-119 (.788). She is two wins from 500 in her 20-year head coaching career with a record of 498-149 (.770).
The Terps have earned a record of 73-8 (.901) in Big Ten play, including their 11-1 record in the Big Ten Tournament. They are 85-12 (.876) against Big Ten opponents in the 17 years under Brenda Frese.
