Rutgers started off hot offensively, taking a 28-24 lead to the first quarter break, by way of 55 percent shooting and five three pointers. The Terps held Rutgers to just 29 percent shooting in the shooting in the second quarter and trailed 41-36 at halftime. Mikesell and Watson combined for five three pointers in the first half.
Using an 8-0 run by Charles herself, the Terps battled back to tie the game at 47 at the end of three and take a 49-47 lead to start the fourth. The Scarlet Knights out-rebounded Maryland eight-to-four, made all three of their three pointers and scored three buckets off Maryland turnovers in the fourth quarter to retake command of the game and notch the victory.
Today's loss marks Maryland's first of the year as the Terrapins now stand at 12-1 and 1-1 in Big Ten play. This is the first time Maryland has lost to Rutgers since 2007.
The Terps will be back in action on Saturday at the XFINITY Center as Maryland welcomes Ohio State for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
