ROSEMONT, Ill. - For the second time this season, freshman midfielder Grace Griffin was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Griffin played a pivotal role in the No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team win over No. 15 Penn State last Thursday night, totaling five points on two goals and three assists. The freshman put through two of Maryland's first three goals in the first half to begin the scoring for the Terps. In the second half, Griffin assisted on three of the eight Terrapin goals as Maryland ran away from Penn State. Griffin also recorded a groundball and caused turnover to help in one of Maryland's best defensive performances of the season.
Griffin's five points tied a career-high that was set against No. 4 James Madison back in March, while her three assists were a career-best.
This is the second time this season Griffin has earned this accolade, with the first honor coming on March 27th, after her five point performance over No. 4 James Madison.
Maryland will be back in action on Thursday night as the No. 3 Terps welcome No. 7 Northwestern to College Park at 7:00 p.m. The game, which will decide the Big Ten Regular Season Title, will be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network.
