DIAMOND NOTES
• Maryland will look for its third consecutive series win this weekend as Illinois comes to town for a three-game set. The Terps are 2-1 in the Big Ten after two consecutive come-from-behind wins on Saturday and Sunday against Northwestern.
• Maryland and Illinois most recently met last season, with the Illini taking the series in Champaign. The Terps and Illini have met seven times since Maryland entered the Big Ten, with Illinois leading that series 4-3.
• Junior Nick Dunn was recently tabbed the second best second baseman in the country in D1Baseball.com's position-by-position power rankings. Dunn ranks fourth in the Big Ten and 56th in the country with seven home runs. His 66 total bases is fourth in the conference. Dunn is on a16-game reached base streak.
• Senior Taylor Bloom has been one of the most productive pitchers in Maryland history. He comes into Friday with 274.2 innings pitched, which puts him just in front of 2017 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Brian Shaffer for fourth on the Maryland all-time list. Bloom needs 32.1 IP to tie Mike Shawaryn for the most innings pitched in school history. A victory would give Bloom 18 for his career and tie Charles Devereux for fourth in program history.
• Senior Kevin Biondic has done it all for Maryland this season. Over the weekend against Northwester, Biondic earned the win in the Terps extra inning win on Saturday. On Sunday, Biondic hit a two-run go-ahead home run in the eighth before getting the save in the ninth. The Oak Lawn, Ill. native has also flashed an incredible glove at first base.
• Junior John Murphy joins Biondic at the back of Maryland's bullpen. Murphy has struck out 23 in 14.2 IP and the opposition is batting just .160 against him.
• Maryland right-hander Hunter Parsons has been fantastic over his last five starts, recording a 1.38 ERA over 39 innings pitched and has struck out 26 to six walks. Parsons earned Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week after his two-hit, complete game shutout performance against Stetson. Parsons struck out a career high nine batters and did not walk any, completing the start in 101 pitches. He retired the first 11 batters he faced.
• Sophomore left-hander Tyler Blohm notched his best start of the season against Stetson on March 26. The Severna Park native notched a career high 12 strikeouts over eight innings. He allowed just four hits and one walk.
