COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland basketball team will embark on a 10-day training trip to Italy August 4-13, touring four cities across the Mediterranean nation while playing three scrimmages against European competition.
The Terrapins will visit Rome, Florence, Venice and Lake Como during the August excursion, while playing games against the Rome All-Stars (August 6), the Pisa All-Stars (August 8) and the Netherlands National 'B' team (August 11).
"We've had a great 10 days of practice and we're really going to enjoy this trip together in Italy," said head coach Mark Turgeon. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our players, and will be a phenomenal educational experience. We're excited to get over there and continue to build on the productive summer we've had as a team."
The team will have plenty of sightseeing and educational opportunities throughout the trip, including guided tours of Vatican City and Florence, a visit to the Ferrari Museum in Maranello and a ride on Venice's famous gondolas.
Be sure to follow along with Maryland social media channels via @TerrapinHoops on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to take in the sights and sounds of the team's Italian experience.
In addition, a daily recap blog will be posted on umterps.com with updates from throughout the trip.
