Terps Primed for Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Maryland track and field teams are set to compete in the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich this Saturday, Jan. 19.
"We are looking forward to facing six Big Ten schools this weekend in Michigan," Head Coach Andrew Valmon said. "It will be a good early preview of what is to come in the conference this indoor season."
On the men's side, look out for Kameron Jones in the men's 400m dash, Aaron Barlev in the 3k, Carlos Vanzego in the triple jump, Greg Thompson in the shotput, freshman Cameron Vereen in the 60m and 200m dash, TJ Bleichner in the 800m run, and Hazem Miawad in the 600m.
In the women's events, keep an eye on Leah Blackall in the triple jump, Jewel Smith in the 60m hurdles and long jump, Nadia Hackett in the 60m hurdles, Emily Bracher and Kathryn Gearhart who will open their seasons in the 3k, Jaida Smith, Venida Fagan in the 60m dash, Paige Novak and Christine Laurie in the mile, and Cheyenne Jones and Thaila Cooper in the 400m dash.
Transfers Bria Mack and Destiny Ward will compete in their first events as Terrapins, running in the 60m dash and 200m dash, respectively.
The meet will act as a preview for the Big Ten Indoor Championships also hosted in Ann Arbor, Mich in late February. Conference foes Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State and Penn State will be in attendance at this weekend's event.
