Storylines
• Maryland has Record Day vs. Illinois: Maryland scored a season-high six points – the most ever by a Terrapin team in Big Ten play – as the Terps cruised to a 6-2 rout over Illinois on October 6. The six goals tied the program record for the most goals ever scored in a conference game, matching six goals scored against Wake Forest in 1994 and NC State in 1997 during Maryland's ACC days. The six goals were the most scored in a game by Maryland since a 9-0 win over the Citadel on August 23, 2013.
• Score Early and Win: When Maryland has scored a goal in the first five minutes of the game this season, the Terps are 5-0. Those early goals have provided a spark for the rest of the game, too. In each of those five wins, Maryland has put up at least two goals. In games where Maryland scored in the opening 10 minutes, it has notched three shutouts and outscored opponents 16-3.
• Terps Upset #20 Rutgers: Maryland secured a crucial Big Ten road victory on September 28 when the Terps knocked off #20 Rugters 2-1 in Piscataway. Alyssa Poarch and Hope Lewandoski both netted first half goals, while Erin Seppi made five saves in goal to clinch the victory. The win marked Maryland's first road win of the season, and first ranked road victory since the Terps won at #13 Iowa on September 25, 2014.
• Flippens Provides Immediate Assist: Senior Jlon Flippens made an immediate impact since her season debut against Princeton, totaling six assists in six games for the Terps. She added two to her total in Maryland's 6-2 win over Illinois, setting up two goals off of free kicks. Her six assists are tied for the moat by a Terp in a single season since Shannon Collins tallied six in 2014 and ranks second in the Big Ten. The Philadelphia, Pa. native appeared in just two games before missing the rest of 2018 season with an injury, and sat out the first seven games of this season while continuing to work her way back.
• Poarch Power: Forward Alyssa Poarch has put together a breakthrough redshirt sophomore campaign for the Terps, leading the team in points (17) and goals (8) which both rank third in the Big Ten. She has two multi-goal games for the Terps this season, including a two-score effort in Maryland's 6-2 victory over Illinois. She was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1. After posting a goal and an assist to help the Terps upset No. 20 Rutgers on the road on September 28. She put Maryland ahead 1-0, then assisted on the game-winner to secure the victory for Maryland.
• Gotta Have Goals: Maryland increased its scoring output in its eight non-conference games compared to last season, with 11 goals scored this year compared to only six in 2018. Maryland matched its 2018 Big Ten goal total (10) in just five conference games this season. Last season, only one player (Jarena Harmon) totaled more than two goals on the season, whereas Alyssa Poach (8) and Mikayla Dayes (4) have both surpassed the mark in only 13 games.
