ROSEMONT, Ill. – Maryland senior center back Johannes Bergmann has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Bergmann helped the Terps take down No. 6 Indiana and No. 24 Yale last week with two sensational all-around performances. The senior scored Maryland's third goal of its' 3-0 win over the Hoosiers and led the defense to a clean sheet. Indiana was unable to generate a shot on goal against the Terps.
Against previously unbeaten Yale, Bergmann was fantastic at his left center back spot throughout the match before providing the 100th minute game winner. After not scoring in his first 54 matches in a Maryland uniform, Bergmann has now scored in his last two matches.
Bergmann previously earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 19, 2017. Maryland returns to action Friday night at Ohio State. The match will kickoff at 7 p.m., and fans can watch the action live on BTN Plus.
