BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Terrapin cross country squad faced their biggest competition yet at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational. The Varsity Gold race featured over 350 competitors. This served as a preview for the NCAA Regional competition that will be hosted on this same course in November.
The top three finishers all completed the six-kilometer course in a new personal best time. Senior,
Brittany Lang, was the first to cross the line in 20:52.3 after challenging herself to compete in the top of the field. Senior teammate,
Kathryn Gearhart, was close behind in a new personal best of 21:02.2 for the 6k distance. Junior,
Christine Laurie continued the streak of fast times crossing the line in 21:12.8 for a new lifetime best.
Two freshmen Terps rounded out the top five scorers for the team.
Anna Coffin was the fourth Terrapin across the finish line in 22:15.8 for her first 6k race.
Samantha Facius finished fifth in 22:34.4.
Caroline Augelli and
Sarah Daniels came through in the sixth and seventh team positions after a strong effort out on the course.
Claudia Dolan, Julia Reicin, and
Mackenzie Morgan also made an impact for the squad.
Next up will be the Penn State National invite on October 18
th in State College, PA.
