COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Nov. 12, 2019) – Legendary broadcaster
Johnny Holliday, who is in his 41st season as the "Voice of the Terrapins," will be honored at "A Salute to
Johnny Holliday: 40 Years of Broadcasting Excellence" Tuesday night in Baltimore.
Among the notable attendees expected to be in attendance are hall of fame head coach
Gary Williams, former Maryland basketball standouts Tom McMillen and
Walt Williams, national champion head coaches
Missy Meharg and
Cathy Reese and director of athletics
Damon Evans.
Hosted by the Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation and the Sports Boosters of Maryland, the event will encapsulate Holliday's historic four-decade career at Maryland. It will also look back on Holliday's numerous other outstanding roles along the way, including his time as a top-40 DJ in San Francisco, where he co-hosted the Beatles final American Concert in 1966, and his 12-year tenure providing pre- and post-game coverage for the Washington Nationals.
Holliday is universally renowned among Maryland fans for describing some of the most iconic moments in school history, culminating with the men's basketball program's 2002 National Championship when he proclaimed, "And the kids have done it!" as the clock hit zero.
He also described Frank Reich's epic 30-point comeback against Miami, in addition to Len Bias' heroic 35-point effort against North Carolina that led to the Tar Heels' first-ever loss in the Dean Dome, among many other events.
Holliday is a member of numerous Hall of Fames, including the University of Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame and the DC Sports Hall of Fame.
