COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Former Maryland men's basketball all-american and current Terps basketball radio analyst
Walt Williams added to his long list of achievements Thursday night as he was inducted into the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame.
A local basketball legend, Williams came to College Park after he attended Crossland High in Temple Hills, Md. Known by many as 'Wizard', Williams is often credited with restoring the Maryland basketball program with former Hall of Fame head coach
Gary Williams.
He was an Associated Press All-American Second Team member in 1992 after posting a school-record 26.8 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, 3.6 assists and 2.1 steals. Williams also broke former Terp Len Bias' single-season point total record with 776 points and had a streak of 20 or more points in 19 consecutive games during the 1992 campaign.
During his sophomore season, Williams was the only ACC player to rank in the Top 10 in assists, steals and blocks.
Williams was selected as the seventh pick in the 1992 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings and played 11 seasons in the NBA.
He joins Ali Andrzejewski (Soccer), Steve Krulevitz (Tennis), Rob Shek (Lacrosse) and Mark Teixeira (Baseball) for the Class of 2019.
Williams is a member of the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame, the Washington Basketball Hall of Fame and the Washington DC Sports Hall of Fame.
