Storylines
  • The Maryland baseball team opens its 2019 season at the Brittain Resorts Invitational in Conway, S.C. The Terps, appearing in an early season tournament at Coastal Carolina for the second consecutive season, will take on Campbell, Coastal Carolina and VCU.
  • The Terps have played VCU 55 times, with the Rams leading the all-time series 22-23. The two teams split their two meetings last year, with Maryland winning 2-0 in Richmond and VCU winning 14-3 in College Park. The Terps are 4-8 against Coastal all-time, but won the team's meeting 7-6 in Conway in 2018. Maryland is 4-1 all-time against Campbell, with the teams last facing off in 1992.
  • Maryland head coach Rob Vaughn enters his second season in charge after a 24-win debut season in 2018. The youngest head coach in the Power Five, Vaughn became the skipper after a strong run as an assistant coach from 2013-17, helping the Terps to three NCAA Tournaments, including a pair of Super Regionals.
  • Maryland named three captains for its 2019 season: seniors AJ Lee and John Murphy, and sophomore Justin Vought. Lee, a third-team All-Big Ten selection at third base in 2017, will start for the second consecutive year at shortstop in his final campaign in College Park.
  • Murphy, Maryland's top bullpen arm the last two seasons, notched three saves in 2018 and will play major role in the late innings for Maryland again in 2019. Vought is primed for a breakout campaign after serving as Maryland's backup to Justin Morris at catcher last year.
