Terps Return Home For Weekend Set

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's tennis team is back in home action this weekend, taking on a pair of non-conference foes at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park. The Terps will host William & Mary on Friday afternoon before welcoming No. 48 Princeton at noon on Sunday. Both matches will be streamed via Playsight on the JTCC website.
Maryland lost to No. 38 Columbia in its last outing, falling to the Lions by a score of 6-1. Senior Millie Stretton secured a point for the Terps with her straight-set win at the second singles position.
Stretton and doubles partner Eva Alexandrova also played well in their top doubles match, leading 5-3 when the match went unfinished due to Columbia clinching the doubles point.
William & Mary enter this weekend with an overall record of 3-7, which includes a win in conference play. In their last outing, the Tribe topped George Washington, 7-0, winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
The Tribe will be led by Mila Saric, who has six singles wins in dual competition this season. Saric has primarily played at the fourth singles spot where she has three wins.
No. 48 Princeton enters a weekend against Navy and Maryland with an impressive 7-3 record. The Tigers have won back-to-back matches, beating a pair of Big Ten opponents in Rutgers and Indiana. They will be led by Grace Joyce, who has a 7-2 mark in the dual season.
Senior Millie Stretton has had a strong start to her final collegiate season. The United Kingdom native has a 4-2 record in singles play to start the season, which includes an impressive 2-0 mark at the second singles spot.
She has also won three-consecutive singles contests, with her latest being a straight-set win against No. 38 Columbia's second singles player.
Stretton has also found success in doubles play, winning a pair of matches with partner Eva Alexandrova. The two have won consecutive matches at the first doubles spot and are coming off a season that saw them knock off the fourth-ranked doubles team in the country from Northwestern.
Sophomore Zoe Kulkarni has been very successful this season, winning a trio of singles matches as well as three doubles showdowns. She won her first three singles contests of the season before falling in three sets against VCU.
The Boca Raton, Florida native is coming off a freshman campaign that saw her win 11 singles matches between the fifth and sixth singles positions.
All eight players on Maryland's roster have at least one season of collegiate tennis under their belt. The roster also includes seven returners from the 2018 squad, with the lone addition being Kansas transfer Amber Policare.
The Terps will be guided by a pair of seniors: Arnelle Sullivan and Millie Stretton. Sullivan is entering her fourth season in College Park, while Stretton will compete in her second season as a Terrapin after transferring from Kansas State.
Maryland was successful in the classroom last season, with three current members of the squad earning 2018 ITA All-American honors.
