Thursday's matchup is the eighth all-time between Maryland and Northwestern, with the Terps winning the seven previous meetings. Most recently, Maryland won 68-65 in Evanston last year on Jan. 25. Kaila Charles led the way with 17 points and Brianna Fraser added 13 off the bench, including nine in the second half.

The Terps beat Illinois, 80-66, Monday in Champaign. Six Terrapins scored in double figures, led by freshman Shakira Austin with 17 points and freshman Taylor Mikesell with 14. Charles, Fraser, Blair Watson and Stephanie Jones each scored in double figures as well. Maryland won the battle on the glass, 44-32, and the battle in the paint, 36-22.

With their win Monday, the Terps reached the 20-win mark for the 15th consecutive season under head coach Brenda Frese and 25th time in school history.

Charles was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll for the second straight week and sixth time in her career Monday. She shot 80 percent from the field in the Terps' lone game last week and finished with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists. She was also named to the Wade Watch List and the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 this week.

Maryland is in the top 10 nationally in rebounding margin (+10.4) and is No. 5 in defensive rebounds (30.0). Sophomore Channise Lewis leads the Big Ten in assist/turnover ratio (2.7).

Mikesell leads the league in threes made with 67 and needs to make five threes to top Maryland's freshman record. Austin is second in the Big Ten and sixth in the country in total blocks (59). Jones is third in the Big Ten and 16th in the country in field goal percentage (.595). Charles is No. 5 in the Big Ten in scoring (16.1).

As a program, Maryland has earned a record of 992-424 (.701) and needs eight wins to reach 1000.

After Thursday's game, the Terrapins will travel to No. 20 Rutgers (17-5, 9-2) for a 2 p.m. matchup Sunday in Piscataway. The Terps and the Scarlet Knights are currently tied atop the league standings.
