COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland baseball team returns home to face No. 17 ECU this weekend at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. The Terps are coming off a series win at Stetson and a midweek victory over Delaware.
LEADING IT OFF
- Maryland is 6-16 against ECU in the programs' all-time series. The two teams clashed last season, with the Pirates sweeping a three-game set in Greenville.
- Freshman Maxwell Costes has reached base in all 15 games to start his Maryland career and leads the team with a .327 average. Costes, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, in hitting .350 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in his last five games. Costes is 8-for-20 with runners in scoring position this year and leads the Big Ten with 19 RBIs. That mark is tied for fifth among freshman in the nation.
- Maryland's Friday ace. right-hander Hunter Parsons, struck out a career high 10 batters at Stetson his last time out. Parsons 1.00 ERA is second in the Big Ten and he has not allowed a run in his last 11 innings and his only three runs allowed this season have been on solo home runs.
- Sophomore Chris "Bubba" Alleyne has been red hot his last for games. Alleyne is slashing .421/.476/1.000 with three home runs and nine runs scored. Last Sunday at Stetson, the switch hitter became the first player since at least 2000 to hit home runs from both sides of the plate for Maryland.
- Maryland leads the Big Ten in doubles (34), paced by senior Taylor Wright who has eight and also leads the conference. The Terps also lead the conference in stolen bases (27), led by Randy Bednar who has stolen seven bags, including four in the home matchup against Delaware, the most for a Terp in a single game since 2014.
- Senior closer John Murphy has already picked up four saves this season which is second in the Big Ten. Maryland has five total saves this year after recording seven in all of 2018. Murphy has struck out 17 to just a single walk in 10 innings of work so far this season.
