TOWSON, Md. – The Maryland gymnastics team earned its second highest score of the season and surpassed a score of 196 for the second consecutive week. The Terps won the meet with victories over Towson (194.000), Pitt (193.850), George Washington (196.025) and New Hampshire (195.050).
"For them to go back-to-back 196s, hit 24 for 24 again and everything is really clicking so I was really happy with today so I'm glad they went out there and enjoyed it," said head coach Brett Nelligan.
The Terrapins started the meet on beam where sophomore all-arounder Audrey Barber matched her career best 9.900 followed by junior Kirsten Peterman (9.825) and sophomore Emilie LeBlanc (9.825). Stellar beam performances earned Maryland its second-best team score in the event this season with a 49.100.
Next Maryland took on floor where it earned a team score of 49.100 led by sophomore Collea Burgess' 9.900. Barber followed with a 9.850 of her own and Peterman a 9.800.
On vault, Alecia Farina matched her career best of 9.900 with a perfect stick to end her vault. Freshman Alexsis Rubio followed suit with a 9.850 and junior Emma Johnson and Burgess earned 9.925s. The Terps finished the event with a 49.125.
Maryland finished the meet on bars earning another 49.125 team score. Five gymnasts earned 9.800s or better: senior Shynelle Agaran (9.850), juniors Kirsten Peterman (9.800) and Tiara Wright (9.850), and sophomores Audrey Barber (9.800) and Emilie LeBlanc (9.825).
This was the regular season finale for the Terps who will travel to Penn State to compete in the Big Ten Championships on Saturday in the first session starting at noon EST.
