Terps Open B1G Play Against Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's tennis team will open up conference play this weekend, hosting Rutgers for a Saturday showdown at the JTCC. Opening serve between the Terps and Scarlet Knights is slated for noon.
Maryland dropped a pair of tight contests last weekend, falling to William & Mary, 4-2, and No. 48 Princeton, 4-3.
Redshirt sophomore Amber Policare picked up a pair of wins in Maryland's contest against the Tribe, while sophomore Zoe Kulkarni tallied her fourth singles win of the season in Maryland's match against Princeton.
Maryland is undefeated against Rutgers since the two sides joined the Big Ten Conference.
The Terps have been dominant in the series, outscoring the Scarlet Knights, 27-1. Maryland blanked Rutgers in all but one meeting, as the Scarlet Knights secured their lone point in the 2017 meeting.
Rutgers wil square off with Towson on Friday before continuing its trip down I-95 to meet the Terrapins on Saturday afternoon. Rutgers enters weekend with an overall record of 5-2, and have won consecutive matches over Seton Hall and Buffalo.
Senior Millie Stretton has had a strong start to her final collegiate season. The United Kingdom native has a 4-2 record in singles play to start the season.
She has also won three-consecutive contests, with her latest being a straight-set win against No. 38 Columbia's second singles player.
Stretton has also found success in doubles play, winning a pair of matches with partner Eva Alexandrova. The two have won a trio of doubles matches at the top spot of Maryland's lineup and are coming off a season that saw them upset the fourth-ranked doubles tandem in the country.
Sophomore Zoe Kulkarni has been very successful this season, winning four singles matches as well as three doubles showdowns. She won her first three singles contests of the season before falling in three sets against VCU.
The Boca Raton, Florida native is coming off a freshman campaign that saw her win 11 singles matches between the fifth and sixth singles positions.
All eight players on Maryland's roster have at least one season of collegiate tennis under their belt. The roster also includes seven returners from the 2018 squad, with the lone addition being Kansas transfer Amber Policare.
The Terps will be guided by a pair of seniors: Arnelle Sullivan and Millie Stretton. Sullivan is entering her fourth season in College Park, while Stretton will compete in her second season as a Terrapin after transferring from Kansas State.
The Terps were successful in the classroom last season, with three current members of the squad earning 2018 ITA All-American honors.
Eva Alexandrova, Millie Stretton and Saya Usui represented the Terrapins on the list, which includes student-athletes who are varsity letter-winners and have a GPA of at least 3.5.
Maryland will continue it's conference schedule against Wisconsin, hosting the Badgers on Saturday, Mar. 16 at the JTCC. Opening serve is at noon.
