COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- For the third time this season and fifth time in her career, senior
Megan Taylor was named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.
Named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth week in a row yesterday, Taylor continues to pile up the plaudits during a sensational senior season. In Maryland's two top ten wins at #8 Virginia and against undefeated #7 Michigan last week, Taylor secured a .679 save percentage, while also tallying three groundballs and backlining a Maryland defense that held two top ten opponents to under six goals, both the respective teams season lows.
Now on the season, Taylor has the highest save percentage in the country at .614 (132 saves, 83 goals allowed) and leads the Maryland defense that has held its opponents to just 4.5 goals per game this past week and just 6.43 goals per game this season, the second best mark in the country. Taylor has over a 50-percent save percentage in every game this season. In Big Ten play, Taylor has a .762 save percentage (32 saves to only 10 goals allowed) and has held all four opponents to under six goals.
Taylor was also named the IWLCA National Player of the Week on March 13 and March 20 following wins over #4 Syracuse, #8 Penn and Ohio State. The three-time reigning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year and the 2017 IWLCA National Goaltender of the Year, Taylor currently has the most career saves of any goalie in the country at 655.
Taylor and the Terps will be back in action on Thursday for a big conference road test at No. 5 Northwestern, which will air at 8:00 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
