COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland freshman first baseman Maxwell Costes captured Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Costes notched a .412 average, .583 on-base percentage and .941 slugging percentage to lead the Terps to a 4-1 week in which they scored 49 runs over five games. The Baltimore native hit two home runs and notched three doubles for the week and recorded eight RBIs and seven runs scored.
The Terps won their first back-to-back road conference series since 2006. The Terps scored 33 runs against Northwestern, their most in a series since 2015. Costes ranks in the top-15 of the conference in slugging, OBP, RBIs and home runs.
It is the third time Costes has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week this season.
Maryland returns to action Tuesday afternoon against James Madison at 4 p.m., at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
