
Terrapins Celebrate Season with Banquet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's basketball team celebrated its 29-win season and Big Ten regular season title Tuesday night with its annual banquet at the College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.
Members of the team, staff, families, fans and the Terps' top supporters all celebrated the season in which the Terrapins went 29-5, won their fourth Big Ten regular season championship in five years and advanced to the NCAA Second Round.
Junior Kaila Charles was named the Terrapins' Most Valuable Player. Charles led the Terrapins in scoring with 17.0 points per game and was a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection. She also earned AP and WBCA All-American Honorable Mention honors and USBWA Third Team All-America honors.
Freshman Shakira Austin was awarded the team's Defensive Player of the Year award, after she was the only freshman named to the All-Big Ten Defensive Team. She also earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors and was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. She broke a 40-year program record for blocks in a season with 89 this year.
Freshman Taylor Mikesell was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earned All-Big Ten honors. She led the league in threes made with 95, which is also the most ever by a Terrapin, male or female, in a season.
Senior Brianna Fraser earned the Terrapin Perseverance Award for her loyalty, commitment to Maryland and hard work. She was named to the Big Ten Player of the Year Honor Roll twice this season. She helped the Terps to the 2016, 2017, 2019 Big Ten regular season titles and two Big Ten Tournament titles.
Junior Sara Vujacic earned the team's Hustle Award for her all-around effort plays. Sophomore Channise Lewis earned the Playmaker Award after earning an assist to turnover ratio of nearly 3.0, which led the league.
Junior Stephanie Jones earned the team's Most Improved Award, after increasing her scoring to 12.8 points per game, which was top 20 in the Big Ten, and her field goal percentage to 59.0 percent, which was third in the conference.
Sarah Myers, who will graduate in just three years with a degree in kinesiology this May, earned the Career Impact Award. She played in 82 career games and helped the Terrapins to five league titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
De'Shaun Harris and Daphne Lee, two of the Terrapins' most dedicated fans, were awarded the Terp Spirit Award for their passionate support of the program.
Charles, Jones, Mikesell, Olivia Owens, Blair Watson and Myers were all honored with Scholar Athlete Awards for their outstanding work in the classroom. Myers was also recognized for making the Dean's List.
