George Mason Defeats Terps Wednesday

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Maryland baseball team (18-19) fell to George Mason (14-21), 9-5, at Spuhler Field Wednesday afternoon.

What to Know

  • George Mason scored a pair of runs off Maryland starter LHP Drew Wilden in the bottom of the first and took a 7-0 lead after six innings.
  • The Terps came back with three runs in the seventh. Sophomore Michael Pineiro notched a two-run single and AJ Lee singled home a run.
  • Maryland put runners on to begin the eighth but could not score. George Mason then plated two in the eight to extend the lead again.
  • The Terps grabbed two runs in the ninth on a Randy Bednar sac fly and Wright RBI single.

Other Stuff

  • AJ Lee and Justin Vought have both reached base in 12 consecutive games, tied for the team lead.
  • Maryland redshirt junior Caleb Walls returned to the school in which he played the first two collegiate seasons. Following the game, a group of baseball playing youngsters approached looking for autographs. Walls signed each one with a smile on his face and asked them what position they played.
